I was born in Apple Valley, California near an Air Force base. My father is a retired USAF fighter pilot who served two tours in Vietnam. I have also lived in Bitburg, Germany, Las Vegas, Nevada, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Soperton, GA. I moved to Soperton at the age of 12 and am a transplanted Southerner now. I was a cheerleader and attended the Governor's Honor's Program in English/Communications and graduated with highest honors from Treutlen High School as valedictorian and STAR student. My mother is a retired public school teacher and instilled a love of learning and reading in me. Both of my siblings are educators in public schools in Georgia.

After high school, I attended Wesleyan College, the oldest college chartered to grant degrees to women, on a partial scholarship. I served as the editor of the Wesleyan Creative Arts Magazine, Student Ambassador, peer tutor and alumnae office assistant. I graduated cum laude with a degree in English/Journalism in 1987. I interned at Charter Medical Corp; USAF Reserve HQ for public relations; Channel 13 WMAZ in newsroom; Macon Telegraph in newsroom and worked for the Telegraph for a year before attending Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in Macon on a partial scholarship. During law school I was the editor of the Legal Eagle newspaper and served on Moot Court board where I participated in several moot court competitions in North Carolina and Florida. I rec'd 1st runner up oral advocate in a moot court competition in Orlando. During law school I interned with Adams, Hemingway, Wilson Baxter & Stone and Martin, Snow, Grant & Napier. I obtained my juris doctor degree in 1991.

I have two children, a son and a daughter who are the lights of my life. I am a member of Vineville United Methodist Church. Charities I support are the American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Paralyzed Veterans of America, March of Dimes, Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Alzheimer's Association, Juvenile Diabetes Association, and locally Vineville United Methodist Church, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Macon Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, Loaves & Fishes, the Methodist Children’s home and Good Will Industries.

After law school, I participated in the Indigent Defense Program in Bibb County for 5 years. I also worked for a private law firm for 18 years primarily handling insurance defense claims such as workers' compensation, premises liability (slip & falls, malicious prosecution, false arrest) and motor vehicle/truck wrecks. I now represent injured people to help them get the benefits they deserve because I know how insurance companies operate and what makes them pay!

David Bullard and I trained to be mediators at Henning Mediation & Arbitration in Atlanta.. I have been mediating cases for a decade as a mediator, helping injured people and attorneys resolve cases before they go to trial.
